You Take All That And You Wind Up With...
SO! A cup of Agile, a dash of DevOps, and a pinch of statistical control process and what do you have? I’ll tell you what you don’t have. DevOps for data. It’s more complicated than that.
It turns out I’m a DataOps hipster. I was doing DataOps before it was cool. Before there was even a term for it. My personality demands efficiency and I’ve created DataOps things intuitively before I even knew what it was because I don’t really do inefficient. I’m obsessed with developing the fasted, least wasteful, most robust processes I can. Guess what it takes to do that? Agile. DevOps. Statistical process control.
DataOps is the view that business analytics is the combination of software engineering and manufacturing operations. It’s a development method that brings together the various stakeholders of data products like data engineers, data scientist, and data visualization experts along with softer skillsets like people that do work in data governance. in a symphony of collaboration that delivers data products rapidly through automation and measurement.
DataOps is the new hotness in terms of developing data products. To put this in air force speak, if you’re not doing DataOps, you’re wrong.
